- The Leonardtown Rotary was chartered in 1986.
- Rotary is an international organization with over
30,000 clubs worldwide. The first Rotary club was founded by attorney Paul Harris in Chicago in 1905 with the goal of promoting ethical business practices. The name Rotary comes from the original practice of rotating the meeting place among members’ places of business.
- Leonardtown Rotary’s signature local project is the
“Service with a Smile” a fluoride rinse program for third graders in St. Mary’s County schools to promote healthy teeth. Recently the club sent refurbished computers to schoolchildren in India and helped furnish a library in India. Currently the club is participating with the Rural Water Association and Rotary International in a clean drinking water project in Honduras. This project will provide water to nine villages and approximately 2000 people.
